Feelings toward refugees from Muslim countries was an important predictor of support for Le Pen (see full support model). Those scoring high on PPS and SSMP are also more likely to hold unfavorable feelings toward Muslim refugees.
Almost 50% of French citizens have very unfavorable feelings towards refugees from Muslim countries. Less than a third of French citizens are very or somewhat favorable toward Muslim refugees.
Very unfavorable feelings toward Muslim refugees are more than 10 percentage points higher than average among those French citizens with the highest PPS score.
In a model including PPS, SSMP, ideology, and a wide range of demographic variables, antipathy toward Muslim refugees, estimated by PPS, remains statistically and substantively significant.
Scoring higher on SSMP is also a reliable predictor of antipathy toward Muslim refugees.
